Virtual Cards are a digital alternative to the traditional business card.
With a Virtual Card, exchanging your contact information is quick and easy for both you and the person you’re talking to. There’s no app, no install required – it simply takes advantage of the technology that is already available in your smartphone.
Virtual Cards are a new product for cdl, available on our existing portal. Unlike stand alone virtual business card systems, our Virtual Cards can come as part of a package, allowing your users to order their virtual cards at the same time as ordering stocked items from our warehouse, creating templated marketing materials, downloading digital assets or submitting a job to your onsite print room, to name just a few examples.
And as with all of our solutions, you are in complete control of your brand which means you can allow your users to create their own Virtual Cards, safe in the knowledge that they are unable to change anything outside of the parameters that you have set.
So, how does it work?
Once we have created your Virtual Card templates, the user simply selects a template and creates a new card in much the same way as they would create a traditional, physical card. Once their card has been approved, they receive a link to their Virtual Card which they save onto their phone and it sits alongside their apps. But, importantly, it’s not an app. For the more technically minded, it’s a Progressive Web App (PWA), which is:
‘a website that looks and behaves as if it is a mobile app. PWAs are built to take advantage of native mobile device features, without requiring the end user to visit an app store, make a purchase and download software locally’.
Which means no IT security hurdles to get over.
After you’ve accessed your new virtual card for the first time, the card will be available for you to share anytime and anywhere, even when you have no internet connection.
How do I share my Virtual Card?
Sharing a virtual card couldn’t be easier. When you meet a new contact, simply tap on the link to open your card and ask your contact to scan the QR card using their phone camera which allows them to save it to their phone. It’s that easy.

Now think about how many times you’ve arrived at a meeting without your phone. You haven’t? Me neither. Having your virtual business card saved on your phone means that you will always be able to easily share your contact details, whether or not you still like to hand out physical cards occasionally.

Choosing a virtual card over a physical business card means that you have not only eliminated the carbon footprint on the production of that card, but also on shipping the cards to the user.
